Emily M. Huggins, a recent Gleim Campus Rep, is a senior accounting student studying at the Williamson College of Business at Youngstown State University (YSU) in Youngstown, Ohio. She chose YSU not only for its affordability, but also its location (close to home) and because it is accredited by the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB):
“There are so many things that I love about YSU’s Williamson College of Business Administration, but I would have to say how much emphasis the faculty puts on taking internships. Additionally, our faculty is comprised of full-time professors and business professionals which is a huge asset to our college.”
Emily loves to travel; she has seen much of the United States, as well as Canada and Ireland. She’s planning to visit New York and Chicago later this year before graduating in the summer of 2019. Her plan is to begin working on her CPA once she’s finished both her Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees.
Emily tells us that her decision to pursue a career in accounting is rooted in her interest in helping businesses grow:
“I truly believe that small businesses are the backbones to local communities. I want to be able to be a resource to those entrepreneurs and help them reach their dreams.”
Campus rep programs are a growing trend and have become a popular way for college students to become more engaged with—or gain more experience in—their field of study or intended career field. Emily decided to join the Gleim Campus Rep program because she was interested in learning more about Gleim’s exam prep materials and the certifications they cover. Her favorite part of the program, she says, is being able to help other students:
“I love that I can provide help and answer questions about Gleim to other accounting students and CPA, CMA, CIA, and EA candidates.”
Emily first heard about Gleim through other students who had decided to choose Gleim as their primary review provider. In her mind, there were a number of key benefits:
“The features that stand out to me the most are the vast amount of multiple-choice questions offered[…]and having access to support from real people when needed.”
When asked about her go-to study method, Emily professes that she loves listening to discussions on current accounting issues:
“I study best when I am on campus in one of our study rooms. I often listen to accounting podcasts and lectures. I find that listening to podcasts helps because I can relate the concepts I have learned in class to the real-world accounting issues that are happening today.”
