Question: Do I need to provide documentation of my education and experience requirements prior to registering for an exam part?
Answer: No. Full-time university students who are in their senior (final) year may sit for the CIA exam before completing their education requirement as long as they complete the Student/Professor Application Form and submit the Full-Time Student Status Form. Therefore, students who have yet to meet the education requirement may still register and sit for the exam.
Candidates are required to have 24 months of internal auditing experience (or the equivalent) prior to receiving the CIA certificate. A candidate may sit for the exam before completing the work experience requirements, but (s)he will not be certified until the experience requirement is met. An Experience Verification Form is available on The IIA website for use in verifying professional experience. This may accompany the candidate’s application or be submitted later when criteria have been met.
You will find all these forms along with instructions for registering for the exam on The IIA’s website.
