Question: What are the educational requirements to be a CIA?
Answer: Bachelor’s degree or equivalent. Candidates must have an undergraduate (4-year) degree or its equivalent from an accredited college-level institution.
- Educational programs outside the United States and the qualifications of candidates who have completed most but not all of a degree program are evaluated by The IIA’s Board of Regents to determine equivalency.
- IIA affiliates have been given the authority to recommend educational and experience criteria for their countries to ensure adequate consideration of cultural and societal differences around the world. In addition, certain international professional designations (such as Chartered Accountant) may be accepted as equivalent to a bachelor’s degree.
- A major in accounting is not required.
