Question: Do I have to be a member of The IIA to sit for the CIA exam?
Answer: No! Unlike the CMA, you do not have to be a member of The IIA to become a Certified Internal Auditor. However, during the registration process you must sign the registration form agreeing to abide by The IIA Code of Ethics.
Once certified, Internal Auditors must follow The IIA’s International Standards for the Professional Practice of Internal Auditing. You can view this document at the IIA web site.
However, members of The IIA receive special discounts on exam application and registration fees. Nonmembers must pay a fee to report CPE hours, but the fee is waived for members. In addition, many other benefits are associated with The IIA membership.
