As an international exam, CIA candidates need to be aware of the impact the virus will have on their exam schedule. Pearson VUE test centers continue to monitor COVID-19 and are focusing on the health and safety of testing candidates and employees. We will keep candidates updated as Pearson VUE and The IIA release information.
Certain governments are issuing mandates that may change exam plans, and many test centers may have suspended operations or limited or changed capacity.
If you have an exam scheduled, check your email regularly for updates. You should be notified if your exam is canceled. If you are looking to schedule your exam, you may need to broaden your search to find available testing dates and centers.
If you are testing at a Pearson VUE-owned test center, you must wear a face mask. Any cloth or surgical mask, including a homemade face mask, is acceptable. The mask must cover your nose and mouth fully. Candidates without a face mask will be denied testing services, and Pearson VUE is unable to provide face masks to candidates. You can read their full requirements on their COVID-19 (Coronavirus) page.
For updated information on test center closures, check the Pearson VUE page about the Coronavirus regularly. Latest updates will be in bold below for your convenience. If you need to reschedule or cancel your exam, contact Pearson VUE. Coronavirus is affecting test centers in the following areas:
Pearson VUE has reviewed and reinforced policies to mitigate the risk of spreading the virus at test centers. This includes ensuring surfaces and devices that are commonly touched by customers (such as keyboards, computer mice, etc.) are regularly cleaned and sanitized.
They will also be providing hand sanitizer and allowing candidates to use disposable gloves while testing. If you do choose to use gloves, note that test center staff will visually inspect these items.
Regardless of your current exam schedule, make sure you protect yourself and those around you from the virus.

The IIA has provided some additional guidance for candidates who have been affected by the global pandemic. Rescheduling fees related to Coronavirus (COVID-19) are being waived until April 30, 2020, regardless of whether your test center is open or closed.
If you are unable to reschedule your exam before the appointment date due to high call center volume, The IIA recommends opening a new Help case in its Certification Candidate Management System (CCMS). You should also open a new Help case if your exam authorization or program window has expired and you cannot test due to Coronavirus concerns.
For any other cases, you can proceed as normal in CCMS and on the Pearson VUE website. This includes applying for the CIA exam program, registering for exams, and scheduling exams.
If you have any other special circumstances, open a new Help case in CCMS, or contact Pearson VUE directly. Due to an unusually high volume of support cases, you may experience a longer response time in CCMS.

The IIA announced that the Certification Candidate Management System (CCMS) will be unavailable from March 8th through the week of March 16th. During this period, you will still be able to sit for your CIA exam if it has already been scheduled, but you will not be able to do the following:
Change, schedule, reschedule, or cancel exam appointments
Purchase exam registrations
Create a CIA candidate profile or update an existing CIA candidate profile
Check on your CIA exam results
Again, if you already have a confirmed CIA exam appointment during this period, you will still be able to sit for the exam on your appointed day.
The week of March 16, 2020, the newly updated CCMS will be released. The updated CCMS will streamline the application process, include a single sign-on, and improve user experience.
If your exam authorization is set to expire while the CCMS is unavailable and you are unable to make arrangements prior to March 8th, please wait until March 16th to open a case for The IIA to review.
NOTE: If you need to contact The IIA about a concern that took place during your exam appointment, notify Pearson VUE directly at http://www.pearsonvue.com/iia/contact. Then when the CCMS is live again, open a case with The IIA for investigation.

If your exam authorization period or grade validity period will end after the original March test period, but prior to the May exam period, the IIA will extend its authorization period and validity period to ensure you can take the new exam as usual.

With the 2019 CIA exam changes already implemented, The IIA is making new changes to the CIA exam’s testing windows and waiting periods. Starting on September 1, 2019, CIA candidates will only have 3 years to complete the program, instead of 4.
Candidates will still be able to request a one-year extension.
This change will not affect candidates who are approved into the program prior to September 1, 2019. These candidates will still have 4 years to complete the program and are still able to request a one-year extension.
In addition, on September 1, 2019, the waiting period to retake the CIA exam will be reduced to 60 days, instead of 90. This change is effective for all CIA candidates.
For most CIA candidates, this change should not pose any difficulties. In fact, the reduced waiting period will make it easier for candidates who do not pass a part of the CIA exam to retake the exam. This will save candidates on lost time and help ensure you don’t need to spend too much time restudying material you’re already comfortable with.
The CIA exam is a computer-based test that is available year-round, so you can choose the date that best fits your schedule. In addition, the CIA exam does not have any blackout dates, so a 3-year testing period will provide plenty of time to complete the CIA exam.
With the reduced waiting period for retaking parts of the CIA exam, even the hurdle of retaking a difficult part has been made easier.
