Week 1: Beginning the CIA Exam
CIA Review
After conducting some research and speaking with people who have passed all three parts of the CIA exam, I have decided that my CIA study plan and strategy will be largely based off of the Gleim Study System.
My full-time internal auditor position leaves me with very little time to study, so I wanted to rely on a system that can provide me with a detailed study plan that fits my lifestyle. I also have been out of school for four years, so getting back into study mode has been rather difficult.
I have heard nothing but great things about Gleim, and many people say that Gleim provides them with the additional support they need to pass the exam.
Study Schedule
I am a strong believer in striking a balance between my work and my personal life. Therefore, I plan to study for two hours a day. One hour of study time will happen during my lunch break, and the other hour of study time will be during the evening.
I’m not sure if I’m the only one who works better with a deadline, but I have already scheduled my exam date because I believe having an established test date will make it easier for me to stay focused. I have no interest in paying for a rescheduling fee, so I plan to use all of the study features, like the Study Planner and Personal Counselor, provided by the Gleim CIA materials.
Study Strategy
Although maintaining accountability for meeting my daily study goal will be challenging, one technique that helps me stay on track is studying on my breaks during my workday. I think studying at work, and not just at home, will keep me focused. It also feels good leaving work knowing you can come home, study for just an hour, and then truly relax.
I’m sure this journey will not be easy, but I think if I stay focused and on schedule and truly utilize the Gleim study materials, I will be able to have a party the day after my exam to celebrate my passing Part I of the CIA exam!
